Bamboo's music is a drum-heavy carnival ride. His new full-length LP entitled "Metropolis" is 3 years worth of coy, skeevish mastery of boombox rhythms and street talk. It guides the unleashed listener through a masquerade of passion and wordplay. "Metropolis" offers cut after cut of his excellent beat production, and imaginitive lyrics. This journey through the urban jungle plays in the clouds and sneaks into to the hills which most of Bamboo's neighbors never see. It was written and recorded in a bunch of bedrooms in Philly, Los Angeles, Berkeley and a goddam yurt in Westfir, Oregon.<p>
He's not afraid to break down the duplicity of diamonds for the poor, as in the underground hit single "Superdope," then tornado through the bone-smashing drums of "D*I*E*S*E*L" with olympic lyricism that's obviously gleened from years of battling on the streets of Philly. Still, he offers vulnerable memoir, and majestic tales of childishness as in "Magick Hille," and a spiritually moving examination of the failures of modern society, the urban trap, and a call to venture outward on the LP's titletrack "The Metropolis." The Jack Kerouac of rap is drunk with some snares and kickdrums. The very pleasure of television viewing is at stake. Spread warning. The metropolis is under attack.
